Walking for Justice and more……
Birmingham to London – Ian Williams, Glen Randall and Gok – Total amount raised £5,000
Well what we can say about these three amazing guys. They walked an incredible 118 miles or 178.4km over 4 days – On Monday, October 5, three Great Britons began an epic journey on behalf of Justice4the21.
Ian Williams, Glen Randell, and Darren Bacchiochi walked from Birmingham to London, expecting 113 miles but covering over 175. They endured agony for the 21 victims of the Birmingham pub bombings, wearing custom T-shirts and hoodies to raise awareness. Their messages attracted support, prompting many to donate to their JustGiving page.
Such touching support helped them to raise a magnificent sum in excess of £5,000.
Ian had already raised funds for us in the past. During 2018, he walked from Preston to Birmingham, where he helped to raise over £2,000 when we needed the money to pay for our judicial review of the Coroner’s decision to exclude from scope (in our inquest) any mention of the alleged murderers or informants.
During their walk, the lads were drenched virtually every day. This meant that their shoes, socks and feet were wet. They all suffered something similar to trench foot, where they each lost at least two toe nails each. They had blisters on top of blisters.
Darren dislocated his knee, which was not the healthiest knee as it was, but he continued on regardless.
All three of them admitted that there were times when they simply wanted to give up, but then they would remember who they were doing this walk for and why they were doing it.
They each fought against intolerable pain but their hearts were full of the true spirit of human kindness. It is this that kept them going.
Many of the families and supporters wanted to be in London on Saturday, October 10 to greet them when they arrived outside Downing Street.
However, because of a mixture of Covid restrictions, a frustrating lack of clear guidance about how many could meet and another demonstration near No 10, this was not possible.
As it was, we managed to make the best of a strange and challenging situation, where Ian, Glen and Darren had an emotional end to their incredible journey.
Our families continue to be overwhelmed and humbled by the benevolence of others and what people are prepared to do to help us in our plight for truth, justice and accountability.
There are so many people to thank, such as, David Taylor who walked the first leg of their journey with them from Birmingham to Coventry.
Micky Hennessy walked the last leg of the journey with them. To the folks who took time out of their own lives to drive and meet them along the way to have dinner or breakfast with the chaps.

Birmingham to Belfast (via flying at Liverpool!) – Total Amount Raised £3,565.00
Again this was Ian Williams and Glen Randall, with yet another amazing walk. From Birmingham to Liverpool it is a long 144.7km – Once arrived in Belfast it was then a walk to the city centre from the airport, meeting government officials and the families of those affected some of which the guys had the pleasure of meeting for the first time!
What they did not expect was the press they received with local media and interviews awaiting them.
Statement by TUV deputy leader Ron McDowell:
“I was honoured today to be able to facilitate an event at City Hall to welcome Glenn Randall and Ian Williams to Belfast after they completed their remarkable fundraising walk from Birmingham to Liverpool before rounding the trip off in Belfast.
“While permission was denied for the group to lay a floral tribute in City Hall, today’s event allowed them to be received by a victim of IRA violence, Mary McCurrie who lost her father to terrorism.
“My thanks also go to Rev Norman Fox who read from the Scriptures and lead us in prayer during the event at which the names of all 21 victims of the Birmingham pub bombings were read.
“One of those who took part in the walk, Ian Williams, spoke powerfully about what motivated him while Julie Hambleton spoke movingly about how the government’s disgraceful legacy legislation is seeking to stamp out any prospect of justice for the innocent.
“I know that this simple event was deeply appreciated by the Birmingham folk and I hope that they will visit our city again before long.
